PM Abbasi chairs NSC meeting to review national security

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) to review in detail the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Afghan border.

This was the first meeting of the country’s top security body chaired by the new premier.

From the military’s side, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah and Inter Services Intelligence Director General Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, among others, were in attendance.

Meanwhile, the meeting was duly attended by Defence Minister Khurram Dastagir, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and other senior officials.

The attendees of the meeting resolved to taking measures for controlling the movement from Afghan side of the border besides cross-border firing and shelling.

The overall internal security situation of the country was also discussed in detail apart of reviewing the progress of the security operation in Karachi. The meeting decided to continue security operations till elimination of terrorism from the country.

The NSC meeting which lasted for about four hours, also discussed ‘Operation Khyber IV’ and preventing insurgents from carrying out cross-border attacks in Pakistan from neighboring Afghanistan.
